The Center Participates in Arab Document Day Event

The center participated in an event organized by the National Archives of Qatar, celebrating the Arab Document Day -falling on 17th October of each year- in accordance with the recommendation of Arab League.

During this unique academic meeting, Mr. Mohammed Hammam Fekri, the general supervisor of the center, talked about the efforts of the center in collecting, organizing, translating, making accessible, and publishing the British documents obtained from India Office at the British Library and from the National Archives of Delhi.

Mr. Fekri explained that the center published five volumes of these valued documents, as they are an essential source for studying the history of the Gulf and Arabia. He also reviewed the beginning of Qatar’s interest in historical documents, noting the efforts of the Amiri Diwan in translating the Gulf Encyclopedia, being one of the most significant works issued based on British documents.

He paid tribute to the efforts of Qatar National Library in making these document available through Qatar Digital Platform; and in strengthening academic collaboration with the Indian and Ottoman Archives, which opens new horizons for researchers to access rare historical sources.

At the end of the event, Hassan Bin Mohamed Center for Historical Studies was honored in appreciation of its unique role in preserving and publishing the documentary heritage; and of its efforts in supporting academic research in the fields of history and archives.
